چکیده

This paper presents the results of simulations of the complete three-dimensional fluid flow through the Spiral Casing, Stay Vane, Guide Vane, and then through the Francis turbine runner of the Derbendikan power station. To investigate the flow in the Francis turbine and also to identify the loads acting on the turbine blades, a three-dimensional model was prepared according to specifications provided. The results show that the maximum absolute pressure of 4.4x10 Pa is reached at the leading edge of the turbine runner and the maximum tangential velocity reaches 33 m/s in the turbine runner.

Modelling of the Francis turbine runner in power stations. Part II: stress analysis

The second part of this paper presents results of stress analysis of the whole Francis turbine runner at Derbendikan power station by using the Finite Element Method (FEM). Computations were carried out with appropriate boundary and loading conditions for water pressure obtained from CFD analysis. The analysis focuses on stress distribution in the runner blades. It has been found that the maxim...

Methodology for Risk Assessment of Part Load Resonance in Francis Turbine Power Plant

At low flow rate operation, Francis turbines feature a cavitating vortex rope in the draft tube resulting from the swirling flow of the runner outlet. The unsteady pressure field related to the precession of the vortex rope induces plane wave propagating in the entire hydraulic system. The frequency of the vortex rope precession being comprised between 0.2 and 0.4 times the turbine rotational s...

Experimental and Numerical Studies of a High-Head Francis Turbine: A Review of the Francis-99 Test Case

Hydraulic turbines are widely used to meet real-time electricity demands. Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) techniques have played an important role in the design and development of such turbines. The simulation of a complete turbine requires substantial computational resources. A specific approach that is applied to investigate the flow field of one turbine may not work for another turbine. A ...

Study of NACA 0015 for Diffuser Design in Tidal Current Turbine Applications (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Tidal energy is the most foreseeable form of renewable energy. Tidal energy can be harnessed by tidal barrage, tidal fence and tidal current technologies. Present efforts are focused on diffuser augmented tidal turbines that exploit the kinetic energy of the tidal currents. The power output by a tidal turbine is directly proportional to the cube of velocity of incoming fluid flow. Thus, even a ...

Complete Francis turbine flow simulation for the whole range of discharges

CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic) is today standard procedure for simulating and analysing fluid flow through hydraulic machines. This is a process where fluid flow domain is divided into many small volumes where governing equations are converted into algebraic equations, which can be solved numerically. Computational result strongly depends on methods used for converting governing to algebraic...
